Exterior wood and fencing can accumulate algae, mildew, dirt, and weather-related discoloration. This Biltmore Park project focused on carefully cleaning the fence without unnecessarily damaging the material.

The Condition Before Cleaning

As seen above, the wood has turn a dull gray color from time and weather. This client wanted it brought back to life.

Why Fence Cleaning Requires Care

Wood is a quit delicate surface when it comes to power washing. Using the wrong chemical or wrong pressure can damage it. There are specific solutions for lifting and removing the organic growth and dead gray color. Followed by a medium pressure rinse the wood can be safely re-invigorated.

The Cleaning Process

I first applied the cleaning solution using a pump sprayer. I allowed the solution to sit on the wood for 10 - 15 minutes so it could get in to the fibers and pull out any growth that may be hiding inside. I then rinsed with a medium pressure in a uniform manner so as not to streak or strip up the wood. All in all it turned out great.
